Heinz Knoke (painter)

Heinz Knoke (born January 8, 1922 in Hanover ; † January 22, 1991 ibid) was a German painter and commercial artist who mainly dealt with expressive depictions of humans and the human body, but also portrayed other artists.

Life

Born at the time of the Weimar Republic , the son of the painter Albert Knoke , studied Heinz Knoke, the painting itself as a self-taught had taught themselves to the Nazi era in the years 1938 to 1940 at the Hanover School of Applied Arts , among others, as a student of Fritz Burger Mill field . During the Second World War , however, he served as a soldier from 1941 and as such was taken prisoner of war .

In 1945 Knoke was able to return to his hometown. Between 1951 and 1954 he went on study trips to Europe and the Middle East .

In 1958 Heinz Knoke had his first solo exhibition in Paris , and in 1960 in Göttingen . In 1961 he sent his works to an exhibition in Bremen, and - after he created his first etchings in 1963 - Worpswede in 1965 . In the same year he created his first portfolio with a picture cycle of eight aquatint etchings under the title “ Assurbanipal ”, followed by the “ Symposion ”, also produced in 1968 .

Since the 1970s, Heinz Knoke concentrated in particular on the creation of oil paintings , created portraits of other artists such as Oscar Wilde , Edgar Allan Poe or Schubert , created “[...] with brush and pen”, not necessarily flattering depictions of the “[. ..] Human failure ”- and yet he was able to support himself and his family from his art.

In 1979 Knoke had his residence and studio at In der Steinriede 6 in Hanover.

In 1982 Knoke received an artist grant from the state of Lower Saxony .

Further exhibitions

In the Lower Saxony state capital, works during Knoke's lifetime were exhibited in the municipal gallery KUBUS , the gallery Kö 24 and the gallery Borkowski . In addition, the artist sent exhibitions in Berlin ( Kupferstichkabinett Berlin-Dahlem , 1975), Hamburg and Oldenburg (Oldb) .

In 1998, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Days of New Music in Hanover, several works by Knoke from the symposium were shown posthumously in the NDR-Funkhaus Hanover .
