Andreas Heraf (born September 10, 1967 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian football player and now coach . The defensive midfielder was used eleven times in the Austrian national soccer team.
From August 2017 he was Technical Director at the New Zealand Football Association, and since November 3, 2017 he has also been the coach of the New Zealand women's national team . On July 31, 2018, he resigned from both positions.
Career
As a player
The Viennese began his career at Graphia Wien , a club of the Vienna League . At the age of eleven, he switched to the youth department of SK Rapid Vienna , where he worked through all of the youth classes. Heraf made the leap into the green-whites' fighting team straight from the offspring and signed his first contract as a professional footballer in 1985 when he was 18.
After almost ten years with the record champions, he moved to First Vienna FC in 1988 , where he fought for a regular place from the start. In the summer of 1991, Heraf was signed by SV Austria Salzburg , where he could not make friends, which is why he moved from the Mozart townspeople to SK Vorwärts Steyr after only six months .
In January 1994 Heraf was signed by Hannover 96 for the 2nd Bundesliga , where he was not happy again. After half a season with Lower Saxony , he returned to Austria in the summer of 1994. The then long-maned defensive midfielder moved to his first place of work at SK Rapid Vienna. From 1999 to 2003 he played for FC Kärnten , where he ended his active career as a football player.
Heraf took part in the 1998 World Cup in France , but was not used by team boss Herbert Prohaska . He played a total of eleven international matches for the Austrian national soccer team and scored one goal. He made his debut against Hungary in Budapest in 1996 .
As a trainer
The first coaching station of Andreas Heraf, who already achieved the UEFA A license with distinction during his active football career in 1997, was Austria Lustenau from 2003 to 2005. At the beginning of the 2005/2006 season, Heraf coached SC Schwanenstadt . From January 2006 he coached SV Pasching for three Bundesliga games , but where he did not get along with the team and the club management and was replaced by Dietmar Constantini in March. From the beginning of September 2006 he trained again with SC Schwanenstadt before moving to SC-ESV Parndorf in autumn 2007 . In the spring he was replaced by Johann Dihanich .
From July 2008 to July 2017, Heraf was a trainer for various Austrian U20 selection teams and was also responsible at the ÖFB for promoting young talent and the academies. In addition, he worked as a commentator on the TV broadcaster Sky Austria (formerly Premiere ), where he was responsible for the games in the first division .
On August 24, 2017, the New Zealand Football Association announced that Heraf had been hired as Technical Director.
On November 3, 2017, he was also the coach of the New Zealand women's national team "Football Ferns" . After complaints from the women's team that Heraf had displayed tactical and human deficiencies, he was suspended from both posts on June 20, 2018 with immediate effect and an internal investigation initiated. On July 31, 2018, Heraf announced his resignation from both functions.
In December 2018 he became coach of the second division Floridsdorfer AC . In May 2019, the FAC separated from Heraf.
