Hermann Baumeister (born January 4, 1806 in Hamburg ; † April 16, 1877 ibid) was a German politician , member and president of the Hamburg Parliament and a lawyer .

Life

Hermann Baumeister came from a Hamburg merchant family and studied law in Tübingen . At first he was a lawyer . In 1835 he moved to the lower court as a judge , where he worked until 1859. This step was necessary because Baumeister wanted to devote himself more to scientific and political issues and this was easier as a judge. In 1848/49 he was President of the Constituent Assembly in Hamburg and a fighter for a modern Hamburg constitution. He was also a member of the Council u. Citizens' Deputation of the City.

From 1859 until his death in 1877, Baumeister was employed as a judge at the higher court and in 1876 became its president.

He belonged to the Hamburg citizenship from 1859 until his death and was President of Parliament from December 1863 to December 1865, January 1868 to June 1869 and December 1869 to April 1877. Since 1833 he was a member of the Hamburg Freemason Lodge Ferdinand zum Felsen .

Hermann Baumeister is commemorated on the double collecting grave plate of the Upper Court of the Althamburg Memorial Cemetery, Ohlsdorf Cemetery .
