Hermann von Schaetzel
Heinrich Ernst Ludwig Hermann von Schaetzel (born August 28, 1814 in Kolberg , † January 6, 1892 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and director of the rifle factory in Spandau .
Life
origin
Hermann was the son of District Administrator Karl von Schaetzel (* 1794) and his wife Julie, née Schick (* around 1790). His mother was an opera singer and his sister Pauline (1811-1882) was a well-known singer.
Military career
After visiting the school to the Gray Monastery and the Friedrich-Wilhelm Gymnasium in Berlin Schaetzel occurred on April 1, 1833 as three-year volunteer in the 12th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army one. There he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich on October 6, 1833 and transferred to the Kaiser Alexander Grenadier Regiment on January 10, 1835 . Under promotion to second lieutenant , he was the regiment on May 1, 1835 aggregated and einrangiert on 10 May 1836th In 1842 he was assigned to the Guard Reserve Battalion. This was followed by commandments from June 1843 to March 1844 to the rifle revision commission in Potsdam and from January 1, 1845 to the rifle revision commission in Suhl . In May 1846, Schaetzel was given the task of overseeing the modification work on drill rifles in Berlin. On May 13, 1848 he was ordered to serve in the Artillery Department of the War Ministry . In this capacity, Schaetzel was promoted to Prime Lieutenant in mid-September 1848 and on December 7, 1850 he was aggregated to the War Ministry.
In mid-April 1852, Schaetzel was promoted to captain and on February 8, 1853, under position à la suite of the War Ministry, he was appointed President of the Rifle Revision Commission in Sömmerda . With the promotion to major , he was transferred to the army officers on July 26, 1856 while retaining the uniform of the War Ministry, and on December 24, 1858, he was appointed director of the rifle factory in Spandau. In this position, Schaetzel advanced to colonel by mid-February 1866 and received the Commander's Cross II. Class of the Order of the Zähringer Lion in April 1867 and the Crown Order III in mid-January 1868 . Class. In recognition of his extraordinary achievements in the production of improved models of needle guns , he was granted the authority and fees of a regimental commander on March 17, 1870. Schaetzel received the character of Major General on July 26, 1870 and on the occasion of the festival of the Order, Emperor Wilhelm I awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, in January 1875 . With pension he received the on December 9, 1875 farewell approved before one week later with board for disposition was made.
He died on January 6, 1892 in Berlin and was buried on January 10, 1892 in the garrison cemetery.

Schaetzel married on February 6, 1849 in Berlin Helene von Arenstorff (1821–1898), a daughter of Georg von Arensdorff (1785–1822), gentleman on Krümmel.
