Hermann von Suckow (General)

Ludwig Ulrich Hermann Dominikus von Suckow (born March 29, 1792 in Warin , † April 3, 1872 in Erfurt ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Hermann was a son of the Oberamtmann and Drost zu Warin, August von Suckow (1746-1827) and his wife Dorothea, née Oldenburg (1763-1827).

Military career

Suckow entered on May 1, 1805 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "Alt-Larisch" of the Prussian Army and in October of the same year advanced to Portepeefähnrich . During the Fourth Coalition War he was captured in the Battle of Jena , from which Suckow did not return until the beginning of May 1808. On April 3, 1809 he was employed in the Colberg Infantry Regiment , but retired from active service in mid-November 1811.

He then entered the service of Hesse-Darmstadt as a second lieutenant in mid-May 1812 and took part in the battles at Borodino and Krasnoi on the side of France during the Russian campaign. On December 10, 1812, he was taken prisoner by Russia, where he remained until March 30, 1813. Suckow joined the Russian-German Legion and at the end of July 1813 became Premier Lieutenant in the 2nd Infantry Regiment. During the Wars of Liberation he fought on the Göhrde , near Vellahn, Harburg and Ligny . For Sehestadt Suckow received the order of St. Anna III. Class with a bow and the Iron Cross II for Wavre .

He switched to Prussian service with the Legion on July 1, 1814 and was transferred to the 31st Infantry Regiment on May 30, 1815 . There Suckow rose to captain and company commander in mid-September 1818 . He was promoted to lieutenant colonel by March 1843. Two years later he was initially charged with the command of the 32nd Infantry Regiment and on August 15, 1845 he was appointed regimental commander. In this position he was promoted to colonel on March 31, 1846 . Under awarding of the character as a major general Suckow took his on November 6, 1848 farewell with board .

He was a legal knight of the Order of St. John and owner of the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a bow.

family

Suckow married on February 15, 1820 in Harkerode Marianne von Thadden (1794-1826), a daughter of Lieutenant General Johann Leopold von Thadden . After her untimely death, on September 12, 1830 in Erfurt , he married Jenny Freiin vom Hagen (1803–1839), daughter of the district president in Erfurt Ludwig von Hagen . The following children were born from the first marriage:

  • Blanka (1822–1887) ⚭ 1844 Friedrich von Rohrscheidt (1815–1880), secret accountant
