Johann Leopold von Thadden

Johann Leopold von Thadden (born November 20, 1736 on Gut Reddestow ; † December 27, 1817 in Halle ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of infantry regiment No. 3 and knight of the Pour le Mérite .

Life

Johann Leopold came from the Pomeranian noble family Thadden and was the son of the heir of Reddestow and Prussian captain in the infantry regiment "von Grumbkow" No. 17 Franz Ludwig von Thadden (* November 6, 1693; † June 17, 1779) and his wife Barbara Sophia Elisabeth von Zitzewitz (* 1712 - † May 26, 1750).

Military career

In 1749 Thadden came to the cadet institute in Berlin . In 1754 he was accepted as a sergeant in the Grenadier Guard Battalion "von Retzow" No. 6. He was promoted in 1757 to Ensign , 1758 to second lieutenant and in 1765 to first lieutenant . In 1766 he became a captain and adjutant inspection of Lieutenant General Friedrich Christoph von Saldern . In 1769 he was then major in the "Anhalt-Bernburg" regiment No. 3 . In 1774 he received the Pour le Mérite at a revue . In 1777 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and was given the position of commander of the regiment. On September 10, 1780 he became a colonel and on June 3, 1788 he was appointed major general , in addition he became chief of the infantry regiment "von Leipziger" No. 3. He gave up the position on October 1, 1800. On January 13, 1794 he was appointed lieutenant general and became inspector of the Magdeburg infantry. For his participation in the Rhine campaign (including the battle of Kaiserslautern ) he was awarded the Great Red Eagle Order . In 1800 he was retired due to illness and received a governor's post with a salary of 1200 thalers . From 1803 until the French occupation in 1806 he was governor of Spandau .

Thadden was hereditary lord on Reddestow and Mittel Lowitz in Pomerania as well as on Diemitz in the Saalkreis . He was also canon of Halberstadt from 1786 .

family

His first wife was Christiana Luise von Bülow adH Helmsdorf (born June 26, 1741 - May 20, 1782), daughter of the privy councilor Buffo Heinrich von Bülow , since 1775 . His second wife was since August 18, 1785, Rahel Juliane Charlotte von Hünerbein (* July 3, 1759, † March 5, 1812), a sister of General Friedrich Heinrich Karl von Hünerbein .
