Karl Julius Hermann Witte , von Witte since 1882 (born December 19, 1826 in Schenkenberg , † August 20, 1891 in Liegnitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Hermann was the son of the gentleman on Schenkenberg Karl Witte († 1846) and his wife Karoline, née Wolter († 1884).

Life

After attending grammar school in Prenzlau , Witte joined the 7th Hussar Regiment of the Prussian Army as a hussar on March 28, 1844 and was promoted to second lieutenant until mid-September 1845 . During the suppression of the Polish uprising in the province of Posen , he took part in the skirmishes at Trebowo and Steszewo in 1848. In mid-September 1851 he was assigned to the cavalry tribe with the 1st Battalion in the 18th Landwehr Regiment in Posen . This was followed from November 1, 1855 to March 31, 1857, a command to serve as a squadron leader in the squadron of the Landwehr battalion in the 40th Infantry Regiment (8th Reserve Regiment) in Graefrath . Witte rose to Prime Lieutenant in early December 1856 , was commanded from October 4, 1858 to June 1, 1859 as a squadron leader for service with the 7th Landwehr Hussar Regiment, and at the end of May 1859 was captain . After being commanded as adjutant of the 8th Division , he was appointed squadron chief in his main regiment on October 1, 1860 . In this position, Witte took part in the battles at Hühnerwasser , Münchengrätz , Prasek and Königgrätz during the war against Austria in 1866 and received the Order of the Crown, IV class with swords , for his work .

Witte rose to major on May 25, 1867 and was transferred as a regular staff officer to the Pomeranian Hussar Regiment (Blüchersche Hussars) No. 5 in Stolp on March 22, 1868 . From mid-November 1868 he was assigned to the Military Riding Institute for three months for training purposes . In the war against France in 1870/71, Witte took part with his regiment in the battles at Marolles, Artenay , Coulmiers , Meung, Sedan , Orleans , Beaugency and Le Mans . Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, Witte was sent to Württemberg after the peace treaty with the position of his regiment à la suite to take over as commander of the 2nd Dragoon Regiment No. 26 . Witte married on July 15, 1850 in Poznan Marie Krieger (1832-1851), a daughter of the bailiff from Bogdanowa Georg August Krieger. The daughter Anna Marie (* 1851) emerged from the marriage.
