Higashiōmi ( Japanese 東 近 江 市 - shi , German 'East Ōmi ' ) is a city in Shiga prefecture in Japan .
history
Higashi-Ômi was created on February 11, 2005 from the merger of the city of Yōkaichi ( 八日 市 市 , -shi ) and the Chō Eigenji ( 永 源 寺 町 , -chō ), Gokashō ( 五個 荘 町 , -chō ) in the Kanzaki-gun ( 神 崎 郡 ) , Aitō ( 愛 東 町 , -chō ) and Kotō ( 湖 東 町 , -chō ) in the Echi-gun ( 愛 知 郡 ). On January 1, 2006 Notogawa ( 能 登川 町 , -chō ) were incorporated into the Kanzaki-gun ( 神 崎 郡 ) and Gamō ( 蒲 生 町 , -chō ) in the Gamō-gun ( 蒲 生 ). The Kanzaki-gun was then disbanded.
