Hillsboro (originally Hillsborough) is located in the Hillsboro Gap of the Blue Ridge Mountains in northwestern Virginia. The city is located approximately 90 kilometers northwest of Washington, DC and 15 kilometers southeast of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia . Virginia Route 9 runs through the city.

history

1802 appointed Thomas Jefferson a postmaster for the newly opened post office and the church, which was known as the Hillsborough. Hillsboro factories flourished. In 1831 there were two grain mills, a sawmill and a wool spinning mill in operation.

Hillsboro was incorporated in 1880.

Until 2000, there were no addresses for the Hillsboro buildings; the approximately 60 buildings were assigned to the names of their owners or their purpose.
