Hillsboro is located in eastern North Dakota on the Goose River . A few kilometers east this flows into the Red River of the North , which forms the border with Minnesota . Interstate 29 runs through the west of Hillsboro in a north-south direction and is the shortest connection from Winnipeg to Kansas City in Missouri . At the same time, the North Dakota Highway 200 runs as the main road through the center of the city.
