Hoetmar in the Warendorf district

The village of Hoetmar (pronunciation: "Hohtmar" because of the Westphalian Dehnungs-e ) has 2291 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), is located in the Münsterland in North Rhine-Westphalia and is a district of the city of Warendorf .

history

Hoetmar was first mentioned in a document in 851. The founder of the Freckenhorst monastery , Count Everword, gave two farms in "Otomar" to the monastery in Freckenhorst as gifts and usufruct. However, this is a forged document.

Around 1050 the Althoetmar farm is mentioned in the Freckenhorster collection of records (“Aldonhotnon”). In 1241 Hoetmar is mentioned as "Hotnon", 1281 "Hoetman", 1299 "Hoetmere" and finally as "Hoetmar".

As far as historically verifiable, Hoetmar belonged to the Counts of Werl , the later Counts of Arnsberg . In 1247, Konrad von Rietberg received all of the properties north of the Lippe , including Hoetmar. The Knights of Hoetmar appear as the first feudal bearers of the Hoetmar family. 1449 married an heir daughter of the house and dynasty Hoetmar Series von der Hegge. By marriage, Hoetmar came to the von Ketteler family and around 1700 to the Count von Westerholt , who still owns "Haus Hoetmar" today. (1000 years ago a castle , surrounded by a rampart and moat , arose on the courtyard of today's Hoetmar house . In the 16th century, a new Renaissance-style residence was built in its place , giving way to today's Hoetmar house in 1850.)

Hoetmar farmers were subordinate to various manors, especially the Freckenhorster monastery, the Marienfeld monastery , the St. Mauritz monastery in Münster , the cathedral chapter and the Niessing monastery in Münster.

By decree of Napoleon I in 1808, serfdom was dissolved. The farmers paid annual ransom payments to the landlords.

Towards the end of the Thirty Years' War around 1645, a bitter hostility broke out between the Freckenhorst march comrades on the one hand and those belonging to Hoetmar and Enniger on the other.

19th century

After the battle of Jena and Auerstedt in 1806, the Münsterland was occupied by French troops. At the end of 1808 the previous municipal constitution was abolished. Hoetmar was united with the community of Westkirchen to form a Mairie . The mayor of Hoetmar, Goswin Wenzel Becker, was employed as mayor. Even his jurisdiction lost Hoetmar to Sendenhorst and became a district of the Peace Court referred in Warendorf. Of the men drafted for French military service in Hoetmar , three died in Spain and five in Russia. In the Battle of Ligny (1815) two Hoetmarers fell. In the war between Prussia and Austria in 1866, 37 young men were drafted into the community of Hoetmar. In 1870/1871 four Hoetmarers fell in the Franco-German War .

In the Warendorf district founded in the Prussian province of Westphalia in 1816 , Hoetmar initially formed its own mayor's office and from 1843 its own office .

20th century

Many Hoetmarers lost their lives in the last two world wars. Between 1914 and 1918, 53 Hoetmarers fell. 98 soldiers died between 1939 and 1945. 39 were missing.

In 1938 Hoetmar was incorporated into the Freckenhorst office. Due to a regional reform, the previously independent municipality of Hoetmar became part of the then city of Freckenhorst on July 1, 1969. Together with Freckenhorst, Hoetmar came to the city of Warendorf on January 1, 1975.
