The Danish port town of Holbæk [ ˈhɔlʔbɛg ] is located in the northwest of the Sjælland region , on the Holbækfjord , which is part of the Isefjord . It is the administrative seat of Holbæk Municipality on Zealand .
history
The place is first mentioned in 1199 as Holbækgaard . The city grew around the castle built by King Waldemar II in 1236 .

The DSB railway line runs via Holbæk from Roskilde to Kalundborg . In the southeast of the city, the two-lane road bridge Munkholmbroen leads over the Tempelkrogen in the Isefjord.

Art college
The Holbæk Slots Ladegaard manor house , the main building of which dates from the end of the 18th century, has housed the Kunsthøjskolen i Holbæk (Art School in Holbæk) since 1963 . As the first of its kind in Denmark, up to 75 art lovers of all ages can attend intensive courses lasting several months at the private university - without having to take an entrance exam. The very free training is provided by professional artists. The permanent staff includes artists such as Nis Rømer , Niels Bonde and Hanne Lange Houlberg. Well-known artists such as Documenta participants Lea Porsager and Christoph Schäfer work as guest lecturers . The art college is directed by the German musician Michael Nielen .
