Holger Mertens

Holger Mertens (* 1965 in Solingen ) is a German art historian and monument conservator . He has been the state curator of Westphalia-Lippe since 2016 .

Life

Mertens studied art history , classical archeology and medieval history at the Universities of Cologne and Münster . In 1993 he was at Günther Binding with a thesis on architectural sculpture of the Dome in Speyer and Mainz doctorate .

This was followed by activities as a city ​​archaeologist in Duisburg and at the city ​​curator in Cologne . In 1997 he became the area officer for numerous districts and cities in Lower and Upper Franconia at the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , Bamberg Office , after which he took over the department head for practical monument preservation in Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate for the office in Munich . From 2002 to 2009 he also had a teaching position as part of the master’s degree in Monument Preservation at the University of Bamberg .

In 2010 he started working for the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe in Münster, also as head of section for practical monument preservation. After Markus Harzenetter changed as President of the State Office for the Preservation of Hesse in May 2015, Holger Mertens was initially provisional and finally on January 22, 2016 the new head of LWL monument preservation, landscape and building culture in Westphalia and thus the new state curator of Westphalia Appointed lip.
