Eutelsat 48A (formerly Hot Bird 2, Eurobird 9, Eutelsat W48 ) was a television satellite of the European Telecommunications Satellite Organization Eutelsat , based in Paris. Launched in November 1996, the satellite had an expected lifespan of around 15 years.

history

The two successful launches of the Eutelsat satellites Hot Bird 7A and Hot Bird 8 resulted in a regrouping and renaming of Hot Bird 2 at 13 ° East, to Eurobird 9 at 9 ° East. After the replacement by Eurobird 9A in summer 2009, Eurobird 9 was moved to the position 48 ° East and was given the name Eutelsat W48 .

On March 1, 2012, Eutelsat unified the names of its satellites around the brand name, and the satellite has since been called Eutelsat 48A .

In April 2017, Eutelsat 48A was decommissioned and placed in a cemetery orbit.

reception

Six transponders in the 12 GHz range could be switched to the 11 GHz range. The 36 MHz transponders could be used in semi-transponder mode.

The satellite for TV and multimedia services could be received in Central Europe , the Middle East and Central Asia . The transmission took place in the Ku band .
