Details of the facade

The hotel was built by Franz and Magdalena Koch in 1827/28, which is still reminiscent of the dated marble portal. Koch († 1849) was previously the postmaster in Ebensee and had been running the Zum Goldenen Hirschen (today's Sparkasse) inn in Ischl since 1826 . From here the tavern and post office were transferred to the newly built hotel. The imperial-royal post office, which was operated in the house until 1895, also included stables for up to 120 horses (north wing) that were used in the postal service to Ebensee, Aussee and Salzburg . From 1862 the so-called Postalm (formerly Tillalm or Holzalm) above Strobl belonged to the house as pasture area for the animals . From 1833, Franz Koch jun. († 1871), a son of the builder, continued the hotel and post office. He was followed by Ludwig Koch († 1919) and Dr. Ludwig Koch († 1939) took over the management of the house. The hotel building was expanded several times in the 19th century, including in 1840/1841, including the former beneficiary's house (1787) and the Wirerspital (1828). The dining room wing was added in 1864, and in 1895 the building was given a representative facade, which is now a listed building. In the former large dining room, the original wall paneling in stucco lustro as well as the ceiling with coffered structure and medallions, the individual fields of which show arabesques, fantastic animal shapes and fruits. A lift was only installed after 1900. The rear wing of the hotel in today's Schulgasse ( Dependance Posthof ) was demolished in 1964 to create a garden. Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Strasse, in which the house is located, was called Landstrasse before 1898 and was officially called Poststrasse from 1898 to 1951 .

New use

In 1988 the hotel was closed and converted into private apartments, offices, ordinations, restaurants and business premises and an underground car park was built. The formerly popular post cellar was walled up and is no longer accessible.
