Hugo Hermann von Bismarck (born July 22, 1814 in Bittkau , † March 26, 1883 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Hugo was a son of the Prussian Colonel Ernst von Bismarck (1772-1815) and his wife Sophie Charlotte, née von Plotha (1789-1844). His father died as commander of the 26th Landwehr Regiment off Namur during the Wars of Liberation .

Military career

Bismarck attended the Joachimsthalsche Gymnasium in Berlin and joined the 1st Guard Regiment on foot of the Prussian Army on June 2, 1831 as a one-year volunteer . By mid-April 1833 he was promoted to second lieutenant . Three years later he was transferred to the 2nd Infantry Regiment . After being assigned to the Guards Artillery Brigade for one year , Bismarck rose to Prime Lieutenant in May 1847 . In 1848 he took part in the suppression of street fighting in Berlin and in the campaign against Denmark . Bismarck was wounded in the battle near Schleswig by a shot through the thigh . From April 1849 he was in command as a company commander in the 2nd Battalion in the 2nd Landwehr Regiment in Stralsund . This was followed by uses in the same function at III. Battalion in the 8th Landwehr Regiment in Landsberg and again with the 2nd Battalion in the 2nd Landwehr Regiment. On January 9, 1864, Bismarck left the army and joined the navy . He was appointed commander of the sea ​​battalion and promoted to lieutenant colonel in this position at the end of June 1864 . During the mobilization on the occasion of the German War , Bismarck resigned as commander of the 1st Brandenburg Landwehr Regiment No. 8 and rose to colonel after the peace treaty at the end of September 1866. As such, he was appointed commander of the 3rd Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 66 on September 25, 1866 and was awarded the Commander-in-Chief of the Order of Albrecht in August 1869 for his work in the troop leadership . With the beginning of the war against France , Bismarck was given command of the 12th Infantry Brigade for the duration of the mobile relationship . He leads the brigade at Vionville , where he was badly wounded by a shot in the abdomen.
