Hugo Hermann von Bismarck (born July 22, 1814 in Bittkau , † March 26, 1883 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Hugo was a son of the Prussian Colonel Ernst von Bismarck (1772-1815) and his wife Sophie Charlotte, née von Plotha (1789-1844). His father died as commander of the 26th Landwehr Regiment off Namur during the Wars of Liberation .

Military career

Bismarck attended the Joachimsthalsche Gymnasium in Berlin and joined the 1st Guard Regiment on foot of the Prussian Army on June 2, 1831 as a one-year volunteer . By mid-April 1833 he was promoted to second lieutenant . Three years later he was transferred to the 2nd Infantry Regiment . After being assigned to the Guards Artillery Brigade for one year , Bismarck rose to Prime Lieutenant in May 1847 . In 1848 he took part in the suppression of street fighting in Berlin and in the campaign against Denmark . Bismarck was wounded in the battle near Schleswig by a shot through the thigh .
