IC 3074 is a barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SBd in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic , the estimated 883 million light-years from the Milky Way 's center. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under the catalog name VCC 162 .
The galaxies IC 3040 and NGC 4178 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on September 6, 1900 by Arnold Schwassmann .
