NGC 4206 = IC 3064 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 29 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years across . Under the catalog name VCC 145, it belongs to the Virgo galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 4193 , NGC 4216 , IC 3070 , IC 3078 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on April 17, 1784 by William Herschel using his 18.7 inch reflecting telescope. On September 14, 1900, the object was rediscovered by Arnold Schwassmann and recorded in the index catalog as IC 3064 .
