NGC 4193 = IC 3051 is an active barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SBBC in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is an estimated 108 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter . Under the catalog name VCC 97, it belongs to the Virgo galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 4189 , IC 3046 , IC 3047 , IC 3054 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by William Herschel on April 17, 1784 .
