IC 3081 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type dE in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 47 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 5,000 ly. It is listed as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster under catalog number VCC 178 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 3060 , IC 3064 , IC 3078 , IC 3099 .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 7, 1904 .
