IC 5249 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBcd in the constellation Toucan in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 101 million light-years away from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light-years across. Together with IC 5246 it forms an (optical) galaxy pair.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 7358 , IC 5245 , IC 5247 , IC 5250 .
The type IIb supernova SN 2011cb was observed here.
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on August 21, 1900 .
