NGC 7404 = IC 5260 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / SB0 in the constellation Crane in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 85 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter. It probably forms a garavitively bound galaxy pair with NGC 7410 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on October 4, 1836 .
