Igelsbach is a district of the Absberg market in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The place has almost 200 inhabitants and is located at an altitude of between 427 meters and 465 meters above sea level.

Geography and traffic

The village is located in the hilly landscape of the Spalter hill country near the Igelsbachsee in the middle of the Franconian Lake District . The Schafweihergraben , the Klingenbach , the Hopfstattgraben and the Eilenbach , all tributaries of the Igelsbach flowing through the village, have their source in the vicinity of the village . This flows into the Igelsbachsee about two kilometers southeast. The sheep pond is on the outskirts . Absberg is about two kilometers as the crow flies. To the south-east lies the nature reserve " Stauwurzel" of the Igelsbachsee, which has been designated since 1989 . Neighboring towns are (clockwise, starting with the north) Kalbensteinberg , Fünfbronn , Keilberg , Stockheim , Absberg, Geiselsberg , Graefensteinberg , Seitersdorf and Obererlbach . The municipal boundary to the town of Spalt in the Roth district runs not far to the east. The federal highway 466 , from Gunzenhausen to Schwabach runs three kilometers west of the village. There is a bus connection to the nearby Gunzenhausen. Local roads connect Ort with the surrounding villages as well as with the district roads WUG 1 and WUG 21 as well as with the district roads RH 6 and RH 18 .

history

Igelsbach was first mentioned in 1326. In 1846 there are 35 houses, 38 families and 180  souls registered there. In 1875, 199 people with seven horses and 159 cattle lived in 61 buildings in the village. Until the municipality reform , which came into force on May 1, 1978, the place belonged to the independent municipality of Kalbensteinberg .
