Career

Andrejew won his first title in future tournaments in 2002 , including in Vierumäki ( Finland ) in the final against Sweden's Robin Söderling . At the Challenger tournament in Braunschweig in 2003 he reached a final on the Challenger Tour for the first time, which he lost in two sets against Werner Eschauer from Austria.

Andreyev played an ATP Tour tournament for the first time in September 2003 in Bucharest , where he was eliminated in the round of 16 against José Acasuso . When he reached the quarter-finals at the ATP tournament in Moscow in 2003, he made it into the top 100 players in the world with 97th place. He played his first ATP final in Gstaad in 2004 ; against world number one Roger Federer he could win a set but not the match.

On April 11, 2005 Andreyev finally won his first ATP title in Valencia . After defeating the favored Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals , he was also successful in the final against David Ferrer . In September 2005, he won his second ATP title on clay in Palermo by defeating Filippo Volandri 0: 6, 6: 1 and 6: 3 in the final . A month later, title number three followed in his hometown Moscow (final victory over Nicolas Kiefer ).

In addition to his three titles on the ATP Tour, Andreyev reached a final six times. In doubles he won his only title in 2004 at the tournament in Moscow, where he reached the final again the following year. He achieved his best placement in the world rankings in November 2008 with 18th place. Andreyev was considered a good clay court player; He won two of his three ATP tournament victories and three of his four future titles on clay. In 2008, however, he and mixed partner Maria Kirilenko reached the semi-finals of the classic Wimbledon lawn . His best result in a Grand Slam tournament was also achieved on clay in Roland Garros in 2007.

Andreev also played in 15 matches for the Russian Davis Cup team , for which he has a 14:14 record. He was instrumental in ensuring that Russia reached the final in 2007 , where they were defeated by the United States.

At the end of the 2013 season, Igor Andreev ended his professional career.
