Tamara Drewe ( Tamara Drewe ) is a British film comedy from Stephen Frears from the year 2010 .

action

The story takes place in Ewedown, a fictional village in Dorset , England. Tamara Drewe, a young and attractive journalist from the "Independent", returns to her home village to sell her late mother's house. The locals are amazed because they had an operation on their previously very large nose .

Andy had piqued her interest when she was a young girl. When he sees her now, he feels drawn to her. Tamara asks Andy to fix the house so she can sell it.

The successful writer Nicholas lives across the valley with his wife Beth. Fellow writers have rented their house in Stonefield to work on their books in the quiet of the countryside. Nicholas has affairs while his wife provides food and accommodation at home. Meanwhile, Tamara teams up with the drummer of a boy band, Ben Sergeant. He owns a dog named Boss who loves to hunt cows. Two schoolgirls from the village, Jody and Casey, throw eggs at cars out of boredom, break into Tamara's house and write e-mails on Tamara's computer because Jody worships her idol Ben.

After Ben and Tamara fall out, Nicholas begins an affair with Tamara. Meanwhile, Beth, the abandoned housewife, has befriended the writer Glen, and when her husband is killed in an accident by a galloping herd of cows, she teams up with Glen. Then the true love of Andy and Tamara becomes apparent and Tamara decides to stay in Ewedown.

background

The basis of the film is Posy Simmonds graphic novel Tamara Drewe , which appeared in weekly series from 2005 to 2006 in the Guardian . This in turn is inspired by Thomas Hardy's novel “ On the green edge of the world ”.

criticism

“Frears, known for stormy love affairs (“ My wonderful laundromat ”), but also for decorative cinema equipment (“ Chéri ”), presents a comedy of love and jealousy that is quite mainstream for its circumstances, but which flows elegantly and is peppered with allusive dialogues. Ex-Bond girl Gemma Arterton is a feast for the eyes in the role of Tamara. The men at her feet are all horned. Unsuspecting city dwellers are also warned of the largely underestimated danger of cow stamping out in the open. Entertaining Brit comedy with eccentric characters, a lot of country-loving atmosphere and an extremely long-legged Gemma Arterton. "

"The dominance of gossip culture and the surface reception of today's readers are omnipresent in this small, charming and likeable comedy, which offers perspectives for every generation between biting, cheeky and provincial farce with tabloid character."

"The result is a quirky ensemble comedy that lives mainly from its well-written and bizarre supporting characters."

“Jessica Barden and Charlotte Christie are downright oppressively good in the roles of the two frustrated, diabolical girls. It is a firework display with which they heat up this film - more childlike than in the comic, but all the more threatening in their naivety. The title “Always Drama about Tamara” gives the impression that it is about the beautiful young woman. It's about the whole thing. And cows. More than you might think. "
