Career

Beginnings in the fashion and acting industry

Moore initially modeled for the fashion houses Dior and Gucci , which had concerns about Moore's gender identity, but hired Moore anyway. Although Moore received many orders and was successful as a model, Moore said that this work was increasingly displeased because of the industry's fixation on the body image of models over time. Moore decided to go into acting in 2016 and got an extra role in Netflix's own production The Get Down . On the set, Moore met Jose Gutierez Xtravaganza , a dancer and prominent member of ballroom culture , in which mostly non-white members of the LGBT community compete against each other as members of so-called houses in artistic competitions. Xtravaganza encouraged Moore to act professionally and advised Moore to go to an audition for the independent film Saturday Church . Moore eventually got the role of Dijon in the production, which is about a youngster who runs away from home and finds himself in the ballroom culture . Saturday Church premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 23, 2017 and received positive reviews before it hit US theaters on January 12, 2018.

In early 2017, Moore walked the catwalk at New York Fashion Week and was photographed for Vogue España . That same year, Moore starred in the music video for Katy Perry's song Swish Swish . On May 20, Moore was also on stage with other members of the LGBT community on Saturday Night Live when Perry sang the song. In the credits of the episode, Moore was listed as a member of the House of Xtravaganza .

In late 2017, Moore was cast during a six-month long casting for the FX television series Pose , which is about the New York Ball community of the 1980s and 1990s, whose members were primarily concerned with homophobia , transphobia , racism and HIV . Epidemic to fight. Moore plays the main character Angel Evangelista , a transgender woman who first works as a prostitute and starts an affair with the young businessman Stan Bowes while she is working . In the second season, Angel, like Moore, works as a model and becomes engaged to her House member Lil Papi . Pose celebrated its premiere on June 3, 2018 and received a majority of positive reviews from both viewers and critics. Richard Lawson wrote in Vanity Fair that Moore Angels "communicates caution and desires fantastically" and portrays the facets of her personality with "abundant, subtle emotional clarity." Judy Berman believed in Time that Moore's performance in season two “stood out” alongside Billy Porter's . Emily Todd VanderWerff from Vox commented similarly , according to her Moore has become the "face" of the series.

Other Projects

Moore was signed by both the modeling agency IMG Models and the artist agency William Morris Agency in 2018 . Moore is the first transgender person to be hired by the William Morris Agency. At the beginning of 2019, Moore was interviewed by MJ Rodriguez (the two were already in front of the camera for Saturday Church ), the leading actress in a pose . In the conversation, Moore said that while identifying as non-binary, she was still often viewed as a woman, which is why Moore was exposed to the same “unjust surveillance and testing” as women. Therefore, Moore's activity as a model is a way to get around this and to have the "autonomy to express yourself".

In June 2020, on the 50th anniversary of the United States' first Pride Parade , Moore was named one of the 50 people directing the United States toward equality, acceptance, and dignity for all by Queerty , an online publication aimed at LGBT readers .
