The Infinity class is a class of cruise ships under construction by the US shipping company SunStone Ships. The first ship of the class, the Greg Mortimer , entered service in 2019.

description

The ships are diesel-electric by two electric motors, each with 2,000  kW power driven. The motors act on two controllable pitch propellers . Four diesel generator sets are available for power generation. The generators are of Wärtsilä - diesel driven, two six-cylinder diesel engines (type: 6L20) each with 1,140 kW (each 1425  kVA apparent power ) and two eight-cylinder diesel engines (type: 8L20) kW each with 1520 performance (each 1900 kVA apparent power) . The generator sets are housed in two engine rooms , each with one of the six and one of the eight-cylinder engines. The diesel engines with marine diesel oil operated and are equipped with a SCR - aftertreatment system for reducing nitrogen oxides equipped. You thus meet the IMO requirements for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions (Tier III). The waste heat from the engines is used for heating on board. The ships are equipped with an electrically powered bow thruster .

The ships have a system for dynamic positioning . This allows the position at sea to be maintained without having to deploy an anchor . This is intended to protect the sometimes sensitive seabed in the shipping areas. The ships are equipped with fin stabilizers and standstill stabilizers ("zero speed" stabilizers) to reduce the ship's movements when the ship is not moving through the water. The hull of the ships is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1A, polar class 6). The ships are certified in accordance with the Polar Code , Category B, and are built in accordance with the "Safe Return to Port" regulations implemented in the SOLAS Convention , which are intended to ensure that the ships remain in service even after a department is lost due to fire or water ingress Are able to reach a port safely.

The ships have eight decks. Decks 3 to 8 are accessible to passengers. The equipment of the ships differs depending on the requirements of the charterer.

The ships carry rigid inflatable boats with which passengers can be brought ashore. They are equipped with side gates at sea level that allow easy stepping into the inflatable boats. At the stern there is storage space for expedition equipment such as kayaks as well as platforms from which the kayaks can be used. The platforms can also be used for other activities, e.g. B. for diving.

Ships

The ships are designed as expedition cruise ships. They are based on the CX103 design by the Norwegian company Ulstein Design & Solutions . The ships are equipped with an X-Bow . This leads to lower fuel consumption and improved sea behavior, especially in heavy waves. The ships of the Infinity class are the first cruise ships to use this hull design. The ship type can also be built with a conventional bow .

The ships are being built at the Chinese shipyard China Merchants Heavy Industry in Haimen for the US shipping company SunStone Ships in Miami . The original plan to have the ships built at Ulstein could not be implemented due to financing problems. After other European shipyards were also out of the question because they were fully booked or had no experience building cruise ships, SunStone Ship decided to award the contract to China, where experience with building cruise ships was also lacking, but at least that necessary capacities were available. The construction supervision is carried out by Ulstein.

The construction costs amount to around 65 million US dollars per ship. The construction of ten ships is planned. SunStone Ships does not operate the ships itself, but charter them out.

The vessels are of Cruise Management International in Miami bereedert . You sail under the flag of the Bahamas , home port is Nassau .
