Ija Wiktorowna Gavrilowa ( Russian Ия Викторовна Гаврилова ; born September 3, 1987 in Krasnoyarsk , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has played for Calgary Inferno in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) since 2016 .

Career

Ija Gavrilowa began with the sport of ice hockey at the age of eight and initially played in boys' teams. She started her career at Lokomotiv Krasnoyarsk. Between 2002 and 2006 she played for the then top club in Russia, HK SKIF Moscow , in the Russian women's ice hockey championship and won the Russian championship title in 2003, 2004 and 2005 . In 2006 she moved to Tornado Moskowskaja Oblast , with which she immediately won another championship title. This was followed by a year at the University of Minnesota Duluth , where she played for the Duluth Bulldogs in the NCAA.

In 2009 she won the fifth league title of her career before she was active in the 2010/11 season for the Minnesota Whitecaps in the Western Womens Hockey League and at the same time finished her master's degree at UMD .

She has been enrolled at the University of Calgary since 2011 and plays for the Dinos , the university's ice hockey team, in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport . In 2012 she won the CIS championship with the dinosaurs . During the 2013/14 season, she interrupted her studies to prepare for the Winter Olympics in Sochi at Tornado Moskovskaya Oblast .

In 2015 she received the CIS Player of the Year award .

International

She has been a regular player in the Russian national team since 2004 and took part in three Olympic ice hockey tournaments with them. The Russians took sixth place each. In addition, Gavrilowa took part in the ice hockey world championships every year , winning bronze medals in 2013 and 2016 . In 2015 she also won the gold medal at the Winter Universiade .
