Jürgen Bruns
Jürgen Bruns (* 1966 in Greifswald ) is a German conductor. He is the artistic director and chief conductor of the Kammersymphonie Berlin . Since 2019 he has also been chief conductor and music director of the Prussian Chamber Orchestra. After several years as and chief conductor of the orchestra of the Slovenian Composers' Association, KOS Ljubljana, and his intensive occupation with contemporary music there, he is now a sought-after conductor in Europe and Asia.
The main focus of his work is the performance of rediscovered works of classical modernism and ostracized music. He has made several world recordings and has premiered numerous works by European composers. Jürgen Bruns is particularly valued for his thematically oriented concert programs as well as for his collaboration with other arts (theater, video, dance, literature).
Professional background
He received his training from 1983 to 1988 at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin with a major in violin and as a conducting student with Rolf Reuter and Gilbert Varga in Florence and Charles Bruck in Paris and 1991/1992 at the Pierre-Monteux-School in Maine /UNITED STATES.

With the Kammersymphonie Berlin , which he founded in 1991, from 2008 to 2015 with the KOS Ljubljana, since 2019 with the Prussian Chamber Orchestra and as a regular guest conductor with orchestras and stages across Europe, Jürgen Bruns mainly cultivates the repertoire of the 20th century from neoclassicism to to contemporary music.
In addition to regular concert recordings for Deutschlandradio Kultur , Jürgen Bruns has published more than a dozen CDs (including for EDA, Signum, Quadriga, Lynor, Capriccio, Hännsler Classics, Sony, Deutsche Grammophon ). He has works by well-known composers such as Richard Strauss , Kurt Weill , Franz Schreker , Ernst Toch , Lars-Erik Larsson , Mikis Theodorakis , Ennio Morricone , Nino Rota , but also rediscoveries such as Kurt Hessenberg , Gerhard Frommel , Alexandre Tansman , Mieczysław Karłowicz , Szymon Laks , Eugeniusz Morawski , Jerzy Fitelberg and Karol Rathaus recorded.
Jürgen Bruns has worked with well-known composers such as Alfred Schnittke , Jean Françaix and Dietrich Erdmann and u. a. Works by Franz Schreker , Alexander Glasunow , Darius Milhaud , Marko Mihevc and Ursula Mamlok premiered in Germany.
World premieres by Detlef Glanert , Victor Bruns , Anatol Vieru , Carlo Domeniconi , Atle Halstensen a . a. are part of his repertoire as well as numerous works of the Classical and Romantic periods .
Prices
Jürgen Bruns is the recipient of the “Music Prize” from the Rheinsberg Music Academy and the State of Brandenburg. He has won several awards from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation .
