style

Glanert is known as a "confident traditionalist". His diverse influences include composers such as Maurice Ravel and Alban Berg , Gustav Mahler and Hans Werner Henze , Richard Strauss and Wolfgang Rihm . His aesthetic is based on a comprehensive knowledge of musical history. Accordingly, traditional forms and motivic work play a major role in Glanert's compositions. A tonal language that often refers to Romanticism and Impressionism also includes an intensive examination of modernity and contemporary timbres. In many of his works Glanert deals creatively with the work of the great composers, for example in the orchestral work Weites Land - Musik mit Brahms (2013), commissioned by the Oldenburg State Orchestra, and in Mahler / Sketch op. 20 (1989). In addition to his own compositions, Glanert also produced numerous arrangements. The mixture of “sensitive orchestration” and additional compositional additions is characteristic. Glanert succeeds in “reconciling tradition and modernity in an audience-friendly way” and thus establishing its own, genuine sound language.
