from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jürgen Gießing (* 1967 ) is a German sports and education scientist .

He gained fame with books on strength training and muscle building in bodybuilding , especially with the concept of high-intensity training (HIT), which he developed further . Since 2007 Gießing has been teaching and researching as a professor of sports science at the University of Koblenz-Landau .

Life

After graduating from the Edertal School in Frankenberg in 1987 and completing military service , Jürgen Gießing studied sports science , English and educational science at the Philipps University of Marburg from 1988 to 1994 and also at the Ealing College of Thames Valley University in 1990/1991 . In 1994 he passed the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools in the subjects of sport and English and from 1995 to 1997 he completed the legal clerkship for teaching at grammar schools at the old state school in Korbach , which he completed with the second state examination.

1997 Gießing was with the dissertation On the problem of tutoring lessons with special emphasis on school subject English at Hessian schools in the field of educational science at the University of Marburg Dr. phil. PhD . In 2002 he received his second doctorate, this time in sports science at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen for Dr. rer. soc. In the dissertation thesis muscle building training in bodybuilding . A critical analysis from a sports science point of view , he was basically positive about the training methods , but criticized in detail the manifold doping excesses in this sport.

After a brief activity as a sports therapist in 1997 at the Edertal Clinic in Bad Wildungen - Reinhardshausen , he began his professional career as a teacher . As a teacher for the subjects sport and English, he initially taught from 1997 to 2001 at the Paul Julius von Reuter school in Kassel and then from 2001 to 2007 at the Gymnasium Philippinum Marburg . At the same time, he held a teaching position at the University of Marburg from 2000 to 2004 and worked there from 2004 to 2007 as a teacher in the university department . Since 2004 he has also been a lecturer and habilitation candidate at the Ludwigsburg University of Education . There he worked in the course of Professor Dr. Harald Lange directed research project An age-appropriate concept for strength training in children and adolescents with several individual publications his cumulative habilitation on this topic. The research work was not limited to the relevant parameters of such a training program, but also included didactic and pedagogical content for age-appropriate teaching of such strength training, namely intended for school sports .

Since 2007, Dr. phil. Dr. rer. soc. Jürgen Gießing a W2 - Professor of Sports Science at the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Koblenz-Landau (Campus Landau ) held. Gießing, himself a strength and endurance athlete , deals on a scientific basis with health promotion through sports training and its sports medicine aspects. His main research interests include the theory and practice of muscle building training . Gießing represents the concept of high-intensity training (HIT) , which he has further developed taking into account sport-science findings and which he also applies himself. He has published several books on the subject, including high-intensity training - HIT. The optimized system for rapid muscle building (2006) and HIT fitness. High-intensity training - maximum muscle growth in the shortest possible time (2010). The two-volume compilation Current results of strength training research (2005 and 2008), published together with Michael Fröhlich and Peter Preuss , offered a summary of current empirical and theoretical research results on strength training at a scientific level.

In addition, Gießing continued the research on the subject of "strength training in children and adolescents" that had already been started during his habilitation. The evaluation of the latest studies and research in the course of a project by the Saarland University showed that, contrary to previous views, boys and girls can benefit from regular strength training even before puberty . Together with his sports scientist colleagues Michael Fröhlich and Andreas Strack as well as other experts, Gießing summarized the findings in the book Strength and Strength Training in Children and Adolescents - Focus on apparatus-based strength training. Theoretical background, practical selection of exercises, differentiated training plans (2009) together. Under the title muscle training with children and adolescents. Age-appropriate exercises and games for schools and clubs (2009) he also presented brief instructions for practical use.

In 2009, together with Manuel Schohl , he also published a book that explores the extent to which football players can also benefit from strength training. He has also published numerous articles in specialist journals and edited volumes.

Jürgen Gießing is a member of the German Association for Sports Science (dvs) , the German Football Association (DFB) and the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) .
