John Robert "J. Bob “Kelly (born June 6, 1946 in Fort William , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and coach who played 448 games for the St. Louis Blues , Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Black in the course of his active career between 1966 and 1980 Hawks has played in the National Hockey League on the winger position .
Career
Kelly spent his junior years until 1967 with the Port Arthur Marrs in the Thunder Bay Junior Hockey League . The winger took part in the 1967 Memorial Cup with the team . After he was finally selected in the second round in the second round of the Toronto Maple Leafs from the National Hockey League in 1967 , he moved to the professional field for the following season.
Kelly found it difficult to find a foothold among the pros. In his first six years he played exclusively in the Minor Leagues International Hockey League , American Hockey League and Central Hockey League , while he belonged to the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers franchises , for which he neither played in the NHL came. It was only with the change from the Rangers to the St. Louis Blues shortly before the beginning of the 1973/74 season in exchange for Norm Dennis and Don Borgeson that the attacker found a permanent position in the National Hockey League. He completed 37 games for the Blues before he was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins in January 1974 together with Steve Durbano and Ab DeMarco junior , who received in return Bryan Watson , Greg Polis and a second-round vote in the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft . In Pittsburgh, the Canadian found a sporting home for the following three and a half seasons and played for the team until the end of the 1976/77 season .
He then moved in the summer of 1977 as a free agent to the Chicago Black Hawks and played there for another two years in the NHL. After the 1978/79 season , Kelly let his career in the minor leagues fade out and ended his active career in 1980 at the age of 34. Following this, Kelly also worked briefly as a trainer. In the 1993/94 game year he was in charge of the Huntington Blizzard in their first season in the East Coast Hockey League . With just 14 wins from 68 games, the Blizzard were one of only three teams that missed qualifying for the playoffs.
