Jan "Zimbo" Zimmermann (born April 19, 1985 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German football goalkeeper and goalkeeper coach . He is the goalkeeping coach at Eintracht Frankfurt , where he is also registered as a goalkeeper in the squad.
Player career
Zimmermann moved from Kickers Obertshausen to Eintracht Frankfurt in 1994 . After playing there for many years, first in the youth teams and then in the U23 team in the Regionalliga Süd , Zimmermann received a professional contract at the beginning of the 2005/06 season .
Zimmermann has played five Bundesliga games so far: in the 2005/06 season he played against VfL Wolfsburg and FC Schalke 04 and in the 2006/07 and 2008/09 seasons against Hertha BSC for the full 90 minutes. In the 2009/10 season , Zimmermann came on as a substitute at FC Schalke 04 halfway through the game. Eintracht lost all of these five games. He “owed” his missions to Markus Pröll and Oka Nikolov's injuries . In January 2010 Zimmermann completed a trial training session at the Bulgarian first division club FC Chernomorez Burgas . His contract, which expired at the end of the 2009/10 season, was not extended by Eintracht and it was officially adopted on May 1, 2010 before the home game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim .
During the winter break of the 2010/11 season , Zimmermann found a new club with SV Darmstadt 98 in the Regionalliga Süd. With strong performances, the newly signed goalkeeper became a permanent fixture in the Lilien group and one of the guarantors of Darmstadt's promotion to the 3rd division . In the third division 2011/12 season he was not only captain of the team, but also played every minute of the competitive games. Despite the sporting descent in the 2012/13 season , Zimmermann kept the class with Darmstadt due to the withdrawal of Kickers Offenbach's license . In the following season he qualified with SV Darmstadt via third place for the relegation games against Arminia Bielefeld and rose to the 2nd Bundesliga on May 19, 2014 with his team . Since his contract ended in the summer of 2014, Zimmermann moved to the promoted team 1. FC Heidenheim for the 2014/15 season , where he was the goalkeeper for two seasons. For the 2016/17 season Zimmermann moved to second division competitor TSV 1860 Munich , with whom he received a contract until June 2019. Due to the relegation of the Lions and the subsequent non-receipt of the license for the 3rd division , the contract lost its validity at the end of the season.
For the season 2017/18 returned Zimmermann free transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt and replaced back there Heinz Lindner as a second goalkeeper behind Lukas Hradecky . In May 2018 Zimmermann won the DFB Cup with Eintracht after beating FC Bayern Munich 3-1 in the final . His contract in Frankfurt runs until 2021.
Coaching career
At the end of January 2020, Zimmermann took over the position of Eintracht goalkeeping coach from Manfred Petz in parallel to his work as an active player .
