Janet Brooks Gerloff (also: Janet Brooks-Gerloff , born April 20, 1947 in Kansas , USA; † September 22, 2008 in Kornelimünster near Aachen , Germany) was a painter. She studied at the University of Northern Colorado , where she graduated as an art teacher .

Career

During her training from 1967 to 1972 she received artistic impulses from Joe Hutchinson, Texas and from Pawel Kontny, Denver and from 1972 to 1976 from Oskar Koller , Nuremberg. In 1972 she moved to Germany, where she married the doctor Joachim Gerloff in the same year. With this she has two children: Anneke and Hendrik. Until 2003 she lived and worked in her studio in Aachen-Brand. In the same year she moved into a new studio in the New Benedictine Abbey in Kornelimünster , Aachen, and moved into a second studio in Weimar . From 2005 the artist set up her studio in a listed half-timbered house in the historic center of Kornelimünster. She lived and worked here until her death in September 2008. She found her final resting place in the Kornelimünster mountain cemetery . The dominant theme in Janet Brooks Gerloff's work is people in conflict and upheaval.

Awards

Awards further distinguish Janet Brooks Gerloff through awards from the University of Northern Colorado in 1989 and the Prize of the Rheinischer Kunstverein Aachen in 1990 as well as through membership in the Künstleronderbund , Berlin and in the European Academy of Sciences and Arts .

Other works by Janet Brooks Gerloff include the altarpieces in the Benedictine Abbey of Kornelimünster, in the Protestant church in Ittersbach and that of St. Laurentius in Laurensberg , Aachen.

Stained glass window

The artist created glass windows for St. Michael and St. Katharina in Balkhausen / Odenwald, St. Marien in Volkmarsen, St. Elisabeth Stift in Herne , St. Nikolaikirche in Heisede and the Protestant church in Aachen-Kornelimünster.

Posters and CD covers

Several posters for the WDR for the "Nachtmusik" series were also part of her work, as was the design of the CD covers for the recordings by Ulrich Schütte and Gary Holt "Friedrich Hölderlin - four chants" and "Songs for poems by Heinrich Heine", for the CD “Winterreise” by Ulrich Schütte / Michael Gees and for “Fairy tales and ballads - also for adults” spoken by Konrad Beikircher , sung by Ulrich Schütte with Jürgen Glauß on the piano.
