Jean-Kévin Augustin (born June 16, 1997 in Paris ) is a French football player . The striker is under contract with RB Leipzig and is a former French junior international.

Career

Clubs in the youth

In his youth, Jean-Kévin Augustin played for the two clubs FO Plaisir and AC de Boulogne-Billancourt . In 2009 he moved to the youth of Paris-Saint Germain, whose junior teams he went through.

Paris Saint-Germain

For the 2014/15 season Augustin rose from youth to the second team at Paris Saint-Germain and was part of the PSG first team for the first time in February 2015. He made his first-team debut on April 8, 2015 in a 4-1 victory in the semi-finals of the French Cup against AS Saint-Étienne . In the final, which Paris won 1-0 against AJ Auxerre , Augustin was not part of the squad. He made his Ligue 1 debut on August 7, 2015 in a 1-0 win against OSC Lille , when he came on for Lucas shortly before the end . On November 25, 2015 in the Champions League game against Malmö FF , he played his first game on an international level. Augustin scored his first competitive goal for PSG on November 28, 2015 (15th matchday) in a 4-1 win over ES Troyes AC , when he made it 4-0 in the 84th minute.

RB Leipzig

For the 2017/18 season Augustin moved to RB Leipzig and signed a five-year contract with the vice-champions of the previous season. He played 37 competitive games, including five in the Champions League and six in the Europa League , where he was eliminated with RB in the quarter-finals against Olympique Marseille , and was able to contribute twelve goals and six assists. Thus, the Frenchman was Leipzig's most efficient offensive player after Timo Werner . At the end of the season he was sixth in the table with Leipzig and reached the qualifying phase for the Europa League .

During the 2018/19 season Augustin was only used as a substitute in the Bundesliga, but played all but one of the games in the Europa League qualification and group phase. In 30 games he was only able to collect ten scorer points. After a lack of discipline before the Europa League home game on September 20, 2018 against RB Salzburg (2: 3) for the following Bundesliga game against Eintracht Frankfurt, together with his teammate Nordi Mukiele, head coach and sports director Ralf Rangnick was removed from the squad. Instead of being allowed to participate in the game, he and Mukiele were sanctioned with penalty training. Before the home defeat, when their teammates had already returned to the dressing room from warming up, both had sat in the dugout and played with their smartphones .

AS Monaco

Without a commitment for the Saxons in the 2019/20 season, the Frenchman was loaned to the first division club AS Monaco at the end of the summer transfer phase until the end of the season . Augustin played for the Monegasque in ten league and three league games, but could only score one goal and prepare two more.

Leeds United

At the end of January 2020, the loan contract with Monaco was prematurely terminated and the striker was on loan to the second division Leeds United in England until the end of the season . The Frenchman played for Leeds in just three short league appearances without scoring, with six games still outstanding, the club did not extend the loan contract beyond June 30, 2020. It is not yet known whether the purchase obligation enshrined in the contract would still apply if Leeds United were promoted.

National team

From the U16 national team, Augustin has been playing for all of the French association's youth teams since 2012 .

While he was European champion with the U19s in 2016 , he made it to the round of 16 with the U20s of France at the 2017 World Cup .
