Jean Louis Bousquet

Jean Louis Bousquet (born August 16, 1664 in Saint-Hippolyte in Languedoc , † February 24, 1747 in Kalmar ) was a Swedish lieutenant general .

Life

In 1791, shortly before the persecution was lifted , Bousquet came to England as a religious refugee . From there he switched to Dutch services and took part in the War of the Spanish Succession . In 1706 he was promoted to captain in the company of the Swiss battalion . After his transfer to Saxon services , he was captured by Sweden in the Great Northern War in 1704 and changed to Swedish service in 1706 at the latest . He later served as a captain in the "Gustav Zülich" dragoon regiment. After Poltava he was with Charles XII in 1710 . in Ottoman exile, took part in the battle of Gadebusch in 1712 after he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in his regiment and was also involved in the scuffle of Bender in 1713 . Bousquet was raised to the Swedish nobility in 1714 and introduced in 1719 to the nobility class of the Swedish knighthood (No. 1483). For a short time he is said to have been in the Bremer Dragoon Regiment, but was promoted to colonel in 1717 and became chief of the Bohuslän Dragoner Regiment in 1719 . In 1735 he was commander of the garrison regiment in Malmö and in 1736 was in the same position before the garrison regiment in Halland . Bousquet received his own regiment named after him in 1737 and took part in the Finnish War with it. He advanced to major general of the infantry in 1741 and was then commander of Fredrikshamn , but was unable to defend the fortress against the Russians . During the retreat he distinguished himself as commander of the rifle guard and in 1742 was given command of the Swedish troops in Finland. He was forced to surrender in Helsingfors , but was not blamed for the defeat, but was promoted to lieutenant general in 1743.

He was married to Dorotea von Hohendorff and was buried in the church of Kalmar .
