Jo Coppens (born December 21, 1990 in Heusden-Zolder ) is a Belgian soccer goalkeeper who is under contract with the German third division club FC Carl Zeiss Jena .

Career

societies

Coppens began his professional career in the youth of KRC Genk . From the U-19s there, he moved to the Belgian first division in 2008 at Cercle Bruges , where he was initially the third goalkeeper behind Bram Verbist and Patrick Lane. On the 33rd matchday of the 2008/09 season he came in a 2-1 win against KVC Westerlo for his first professional use. In the following years he played a few games for Bruges, but was never able to prevail as a regular goalkeeper. In 2014/15 he moved to MVV Maastricht in the second Dutch league , where he played most of the league games as regular goalkeeper this and the following season. After the club failed in the promotion relegation in 2016, however, Coppens moved back to Belgium and joined KSV Roeselare . However, he was unable to assert himself there either.

In the summer of 2017 he moved to the third German division as a substitute goalkeeper for Raphael Koczor at FC Carl Zeiss Jena . There he came to his first league appearance when he was substituted on for the injured Koczor in the 32nd minute of the game in the 3-1 away defeat against VfR Aalen on November 4, 2017 (15th matchday). Due to suspensions and injuries Koczors, he came to other missions later in the season. In the 4-2 away win against Werder Bremen II on April 21, 2018 (35th matchday), he scored the first goal of his career with a wide tee. From summer 2018, the Belgian was the new goalkeeper, but was temporarily ousted by Koczor between the 19th and 27th matchday. After the team had only been able to get eight points from these games, he returned to goal. In the 2019/20 season , Coppens was still placed in the league, only had to be represented once by Flemming Niemann , who had been signed for the Koczor, due to shoulder problems . After the premature relegation to the regional league was determined, Coppens announced that he would be leaving the club for free in the summer of 2020.

National team

Coppens was active in the Belgian U-national team and took part in the U17 World Cup in 2007 , in which Belgium failed in the preliminary round after beating Tajikistan and losing to Tunisia and the USA in the preliminary round. Coppens was on the field in all three games.
