Life

He was the last Regondi in Kaisersteinbruch. His parents were master Sebastian Regondi and Anna Christina Madlin. There was a brother of the same name as early as 1700. The text on the lost grave slab tells of this life that lasted only one year ... GOD TAKEN ME FROM THIS WORLD IN THE YEAR 1700. The last Italian in Kaisersteinbruch

In October 1715, the imperial court building authority in Vienna awarded large stonemason orders for the construction of the Karlskirche to the Kaisersteinbruch brotherhood, to the masters Johann Georg Haresleben and Elias Hügel . Hügel hired Johann Baptist Regondi as an apprentice. Initially his teacher was only a partner, but after Hare's death in July 1716 he organized the work in the imperial quarry. The acquittal took place on September 14, 1721. His stonemason's mark is identical to that of his master, except for a piece of arch. During these years the father died and the mother had remarried to the older master Joseph Winkler . He studied at Karlskirche, the garden palace of Prince Eugene on Rennweg, the high altar of the Kaisersteinbruch Church and he chiseled his father's epitaph with an artful cartouche, amid the maker's mark.

In March 1730 his co-master Johann Baptist Kral's Crida trial , in which all his belongings were auctioned, he excelled and offered 2,500 guilders under certain conditions , but no more than 1,000 without these conditions. Ultimately, the incumbent judge and court stone mason Elias Hügel decided the matter for himself.

Problems between Italian and German stonemasons

In August 1738 a violent conflict broke out with subsequent legal proceedings between the French and German stonemasons. (The Italians who settled in the quarry were mostly present in the third generation.) Here, only the triggering spark should be presented, Master Regondi confirmed ... Hereby, for the sake of the dear truth, I attest to how Maister Max Trumler shouted out in the open alleys at night, that the German Stainmözen defend with respect Huntzfider , Spitzbuben and Scheyskerl - is hereby attested

Hermitage in Kaisersteinbruch

One of the Burgenland hermitages was in Kaisersteinbruch. Prelate Josef Rittsteuer writes, … around 1747 we find a hermit here again. A certain REGONDI (Johann Baptist Regondi) had this hermitage built in a quarry . Father Hermann Watzl , archivist of the Heiligenkreuz Abbey, found out that there is evidence of a hermitage in the so-called desolate monastery. A chapel in honor of St. John the Baptist must have been there. The first resident was Brother Link Conrad.

Judicial office

Regondi was elected to succeed Judge Joseph Winkler in 1747. After 3 years, at the end of 1750, the artful Mr. Elias Hügel took over the official business again.
