Johann Carl Lehmann (born February 7, 1885 in Rostock ; † June 16, 1950 there ) was a German surgeon and university professor.

Life

After graduating from high school in Rostock, Lehmann studied human medicine from 1903 at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin and the Universität Rostock . In 1909 he was a medical intern and assistant doctor at the Rostock University Hospital . In 1910 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD . After a three-month trip as a ship's doctor with the Hamburg South American Steamship Company , he was an assistant doctor in Karlsruhe (pathology) and Rostock from 1910 to 1914. During the First World War he served as a medical officer in field hospitals and medical companies .

Habilitated private lecturer since 1919 , he became professor for surgery in Rostock in 1923 . In 1929 he went to the Clementinenhaus Hannover , the provincial training institute for nurses. In 1933 he came to Lübeck as chief physician , and in 1935 again to Hanover . In 1936 the University of Rostock appointed him full professor for surgery and orthopedics. From 1937 to 1939 he was dean of the medical faculty. Throughout the entire Second World War he served in the army (Wehrmacht) , most recently as a senior physician . He fulfilled the university duties at times.

From 1933 to 1945 he was secretary of the Association of Northwest German Surgeons . In 1937 he chaired its 37th conference. From 1943 he was an advising surgeon for military district 2. Dismissed as a professor in 1945 because of his NSDAP membership, he remained acting director of Rostock surgery. In 1948 he was reinstated. Two years later he died at the age of 65.
