Johann Heinrich Schmülling

Johann Heinrich Schmülling (born November 23, 1774 in Warendorf , † January 17, 1851 in Münster ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian , clergyman and university professor .

Life

Johann Heinrich Schmülling attended the Laurentianum Warendorf grammar school in 1786 and later the grammar school (today: Paulinum grammar school ) in Münster.

From 1794 to 1800 he studied theology, philosophy and natural sciences at the University of Münster ; In 1795 he entered the seminary . He was ordained a priest on April 4, 1801.

As early as October 1, 1800, Minister Franz von Fürstenberg had appointed him as a teacher at the grammar school in Münster. He taught there until 1811.

In 1811 the Prussian Ministry, on the recommendation of his friend Johann Heinrich Schmedding, was appointed director of the royal Catholic grammar school in Braunsberg ( Warmia ); In addition to his work as director, he was also professor of philosophy at the Lyceum Hosianum .

In 1826 the rain of the episcopal seminary in Münster, Bernhard Heinrich Overberg died . Johann Heinrich Schmülling was then called back to Muenster by Bishop Kaspar Maximilian Droste zu Vischering von Braunsberg. In 1827 he took over the post of rain at the episcopal seminary with the dignity of dean of the dean's office in Münster at the Liebfrauenkirche and on August 20, 1828 an honorary canon in the cathedral chapter . In 1829 he was appointed Examinator synodalis of the clergy to be ordained or approved .

On February 7, 1833, he became a real canon and was appointed to the royal government council in Münster as a government , school and consistorial councilor , and at the same time he also took the high school exams as government commissioner.

As 1838 Bernard Georg Kellermann for the late Johann Heinrich Brockmann the Pastoral Theology at the Theological Academy of the University took over Munster, but resigned exegesis, Johann Heinrich Schmülling also received the professorship of New Testament exegesis transmitted.

From 1850 he was unable to hold lectures at the theological faculty due to illness and died shortly afterwards. He was buried in the old overwater cemetery.

Johann Heinrich Schmülling was the teacher of the later literary historian Alexander Jung and appears in his autobiographical key novel Rosmarin or The School of Life in the figure of Celestine.
