Johann Nepomuk Isfordink , Isfordink Edler von Kostnitz since 1835 (* 1776 in Konstanz ; † June 5, 1841 in Vienna ) was a doctor and surgeon, military doctor and director of the Josephinums in Vienna.

Life

Johann Nepomuk Isfordink was the son of the district and senior official Ludwig Isfordink in Bregenz . He studied at the University of Freiburg and took effect on October 1, 1802 as a senior physician in the Tyrolean Imperial hunters - Regiment one. He was particularly involved here as a vaccination doctor and also published an “instructive folk script” at his own expense. In 1806 he received his doctorate at the Collegium-Medico-Chirurgicum-Josephinum in Vienna . On November 17, 1809 he was appointed regimental physician, in 1804 medical officer, imperial-royal council and professor for general pathology and drug theory at the " Medical-Surgical Joseph Academy ". In November 1822, when he was appointed imperial-royal councilor, he was promoted to chief medical officer in the army and director of the Josephs Academy in Vienna. At the same time he became president of the permanent field medical commission and inspector of the military medicine management. He died of a stroke.

Act

In particular, Johann Nepomuk Isfordink restructured the army's medical services. In addition, through his initiative on October 27, 1822, the Joseph Academy in Vienna was put on an equal footing with a university of the same kind as the empire . He is the founder of the associated natural history museum.

His work has also been recognized internationally. In 1827 he became a corresponding member of the Royal Prussian Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt and the Medical-Surgical Academy for the military in Berlin . In 1828 he became an honorary member of the Imperial Russian Medical-Surgical Academy for Military Physicians in St. Petersburg and the Society for Natural Science and Medicine in Heidelberg , the Physical-Medical Society in Erlangen and the Society for Natural Science and Medicine in Dresden . In 1831 he became a member of the Medical Faculty of the University of Pest and corresponding member of the Medical-Surgical Academy in Naples and in 1835 a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences in Stockholm .

Johann Nepomuk Isfordink was raised to the nobility on September 19, 1835 by Emperor Ferdinand I with the title "Edler von Kostnitz" in memory of his family roots in Konstanz (formerly Kostenze, Kostentz; the form Kostnitz is of Czech origin and since Huss' Times abusively become common).
