Johanna Nilsson (* 1973 in Uppsala ) is a Swedish author who is primarily recognized in German-speaking countries because of her books for children and young people . In her Swedish homeland, however, she is also known as an author of adult literature and suspense novels.

Life

Johanna Nilsson was born in 1973 to a missionary in Uppsala and has a brother and a sister.

She grew up in Borlänge , the largest city in the Swedish province of Dalarnas län . Already at high school she wrote her own manuscripts and sent them to publishers. When she was 14 years old, her father took her on a long trip abroad through remote Asian countries, where she got to know Laos , Japan and China, among others . The father settled with the family in Zaire , where he worked as an educator for orphans in a mission station . These African experiences have also flowed into her books.

Nilsson studied theology and political science at Uppsala University and economics at the Stockholm School of Economics and actually wanted to become a science journalist. At that time she worked as a freelance journalist for Upsala Nya Tidning , Dagens Industri , Svenska Dagbladet , Dagens Nyheter and Dala Democrats .

She published her first novel “... and you're out!” At the age of twenty-two. With this she works on a piece of her youth and tells about herself in autobiographical traits. She writes youth literature as well as children's and adult literature. She writes suspense novels under her pseudonym Amanda Lind because, according to her own words, she doesn't want to commit to any literary genre due to her restlessness.

Your children's and young people's books, which have been published in the German-speaking area, describe, based on personal experiences, from the children's perspective the life in blended families ( Alva Kuddelmuddel , Alva och familjen låtsas ) of children of divorce, of young people in conflict with bullying , after a suicide attempt or borderline syndrome ( ... and you're out! ) or the confrontation of a student with the school shooting her best friend ( I'll thump first off! / Janis the magnifika ). The German critics attested her great empathy in portraying the child's psyche. Her children's book Landet med de tusen namnen , previously only published in Swedish, was confirmed to be somewhat similar to Astrid Lindgren's style due to the fairytale elements .

In 2007 she wrote the script De i utkanten älskande for the production company Illusion Films, based on her 2005 book of the same name. This script has not yet been filmed.

Johanna Nilsson lives and works in Uppsala .
