The Johannes-Gutenberg-Schule, Städtische Realschule Köln-Godorf , also Johannes Gutenberg Realschule Köln , Johannes-Gutenberg-Realschule Köln-Godorf , Johannes-Gutenberg-Realschule Godorf and Realschule Godorf , is an urban Realschule in the North Rhine-Westphalian city ​​of Cologne . history

Foundation and early years

On March 14, 1969, the Council of the former municipality of Rodenkirchen decided on 1 August 1969 secondary school in the form of setting up a secondary school for boys and girls. The new school initially used the building of the former Montessori school in what was then the Meschenich district and then received additional classrooms through the installation of pavilions . In addition, classes were moved to the Immendorf elementary school and a cellar room in the local library .

Relocation in 1972, extensions, new school board

In 1972 the company moved to the building of the former Johannes Gutenberg secondary school in Godorf. In the following years the school was structurally expanded and equipped according to the changing requirements of a secondary school. In 1975 Godorf was incorporated into Cologne and the school administration passed to the city of Cologne. As a result of the increasing number of pupils, up to four classes in grades 5 and 6 were taught in a branch of the school in Cologne- Sürth for several years .

Extension in 2004, renovation of the old building, further development

After an extension was completed on the school premises in 2004, the branch in Sürth was closed. A new gym with a climbing wall had already been built in 2002 . The old building was then renovated. As part of a project week in October 2006, an art object was created outside the school. In collaboration with the Rodenkirchen youth art school, a wall mosaic was created that depicts the school's namesake, Johannes Gutenberg . In 2008 the school got a cafeteria that is open every day.

Today the school complex includes not only the school buildings u. a. two gyms. The new outdoor sports facilities are currently (2012) still under construction. The school has classrooms, science rooms, computer science rooms, special facilities for art and music as well as a school kitchen and a technical room. The auditorium is equipped with a sound system and a large video projection system.

Architecture and buildings

From 2001 to 2004 the school was expanded according to plans by the Cologne architect Siegfried Vogel. Based on the existing building structure, a two-storey extension building in the form of an atrium was built with monopitch and flat roofs and connected to the old building with a staircase. The resulting inner courtyard serves as a workshop. A two-hip facility was created parallel to Buchfinkenstrasse . The expansion measures included a. 17 new classrooms, two science rooms, machine, technology, art, textile and multi-purpose rooms, a school library designed as a self-study center and a media library , as well as a teacher and parents' consultation room and a room for the student council. A new gym with a climbing wall was built on the school's sports field (completed in 2002); the free-standing building was also equipped with a pent roof. The total cost amounted to about 8.4  million euros . The client was the building management of the city of Cologne.

The renovation work in the old building was completed in 2005. a. The roof and the facades were renovated, the windows were renewed and the administration area was converted. The total costs for this amounted to around 1.2 million euros; The client was also the city of Cologne.

Numbers, dates and organization

In the 2011/12 school year, the staff comprised a total of 39 teachers who looked after around 615 students in 23 classes with an average of 27 students.

The Johannes Gutenberg School in Godorf is the only secondary school in the Rodenkirchen district of Cologne . It is designed in four sections and divided into three levels: Grades 5 and 6 form the test level , grades 7 and 8 the intermediate level and grades 9 and 10 the upper level. General and foreign languages
