Johannes Konrad Rücker (mostly Johannes K. Rücker or Johannes Rücker ; born January 24, 1949 in Nienburg / Weser ) is a German adult educator .

From 2000 to 2006 he was chairman of the Catholic Federal Association for Adult Education (KBE) and until his retirement on May 1, 2012, he was director of the Catholic rural community college "Schorlemer Alst" in Freckenhorst .

Youth and education

Johannes Konrad Rücker grew up in the Ruhr area in Wattenscheid- Sevinghausen , where he also went to the Bartholomäus elementary school. From 1960 to 1966 he attended the Pestalozzi Realschule in Wattenscheid , where he graduated with a secondary school leaving certificate and then continued his education at the Märkische Schule , where he passed the Abitur in 1968 because of the short school years at that time .

He then did his military service in the German Navy in the 1st Marine Training Battalion Eckernförde until 1969 and for radio operator training at the Mürwik Naval Telecommunications School in Flensburg - Mürwik . Rücker later completed further military exercises as well as specialist training as a telecommunications officer . He is a lieutenant in the sea of the reserve (Leutnant zSdR).

From 1969 to 1972 Rücker studied economics at the Ruhr University in Bochum and from 1972 to 1974 economics at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster with a degree in economics .

Professional activity

Johannes K. Rücker worked professionally on several levels of Catholic adult education in Germany. From 1975 to 1977 he worked as a pedagogical employee of the state working group for Catholic adult education in the state of Lower Saxony for the field of social seminars in the Diocese of Osnabrück and in the Vechta office . Then he was at the social seminar of the Diocese of Osnabrück until 1981 advisor for political youth and adult education. From 1981 to 1990 Rücker worked as a national tutor for the Working Group on Catholic Social Educational Institutions in the Federal Republic of Germany (AKSB) . He was temporarily also a member of the national board of the AKSB.

In 1991 Johannes K. Rücker moved to the diocese of Münster , where he headed the adult education department in the Episcopal Vicariate of Münster until 2006. He was also the head of the diocesan education center in Münster and the episcopal representative for adult education. During this time he was also a member of the board of the State Working Group for Catholic Adult Education in North Rhine-Westphalia eV (since 2005 State Working Group for Catholic Adult and Family Education in North Rhine-Westphalia eV [LAG KEFB]).

From 2000 to 2006, Rücker was chairman of the Catholic Federal Association for Adult Education (KBE) . In this office he was the successor to Erwin Müller-Ruckwitt .

In 2006 he was appointed as the successor to Hermann Flothkötter as director of the Catholic rural community college "Schorlemer Alst" in Freckenhorst . There he was also head of Department 1 “Politics - Media Competence - Communication”. Rücker was known for the fact that he regularly brought well-known speakers not only from the narrower Catholic spectrum to the rural adult education center. He did not shy away from controversial events. In 2007, during the one-day seminar “Jewish Life in Germany”, a scandal broke out when the Jewish religious scholar Yuval Lapide criticized the attitudes of Catholic Christians and their church in Germany and especially in Poland towards members of the Jewish faith community. After an hour and a half discussion, some of the participants, among them Polish Christians, left the meeting room prematurely in protest. On April 30, 2012, Johannes K. Rücker retired. His successor as director of the Catholic country folk high school in Freckenhorst was graduate theologian Michael Gennert, who headed the Christian educational institution “Die Hegge” in Willebadessen until he moved to Freckenhorst .

As a specialist author, Rücker worked for the Federal Agency for Civic Education , among others .

Private life

Johannes Konrad Rücker is married, has two grown children and lives in Recke . There he is mainly involved in the Catholic parish of St. Dionysius . He is an elected member of the parish council and as such became a member of the transitional administrative committee of the new parish of St. Dionysius on September 25, 2016 in the course of the merging of the old parish of St. Dionysius with the Steinbeck parish of St. Philippus and Jacobus. As a volunteer webmaster and editor , he still looks after their website and those of affiliated institutions. From 2007 to 2018, Rücker was also chairman of the board of trustees of the non-denominational hospice foundation Haus St. Benedikt. Since May 2012 Rücker has been chairman of the rural family counseling in the Diocese of Münster eV and since April 2012 deputy chairman of the Catholic rural people movement (KLB) .

In addition, Johannes K. Rücker is involved as the fast evening elder of the fast evening Rählmannsiedlung and has been chairman of the Recke eV cultural association since 2014

In addition, as a friend of old motorcycles , Rücker was co-organizer and moderator of the Steinbeck Oldtimer Meetings in the 1990s and 2000s , in which up to 100 exhibitors took part.

Rücker, who plays several instruments ( trumpet , clarinet , double bass and banjo ), is a fan of traditional jazz . Occasionally, he also appears publicly with jazz performances as an amateur, mostly at events at the Freckenhorst Landvolkshochschule.
