John de Lancie
John de Lancie (born March 20, 1948 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American actor , producer, writer and singer.
Life
John de Lancie attended Kent State University and won a scholarship to Juilliard. His father John de Lancie was for many years principal oboist in the Philadelphia Orchestra (the oboe concerto L'Horloge de Flore by Jean Françaix is dedicated to this musician ).
De Lancie has been an actor since 1975. He played in films such as Legacy , The Thorn Birds and The Hand on the Cradle . He also starred in series such as The Six Million Dollar Man , Kampfstern Galactica , Nero Wolfe and MacGyver . He also played the lead role with Richard Dean Anderson in the steampunk series Legend . However, he became famous for his role as the almighty being " Q " in the series Spaceship Enterprise - The Next Century . Among other things, he also had appearances as Q in the Star Trek series Spaceship Voyager and Deep Space Nine . He also appeared as Sid on Andromeda and in several episodes of Stargate - Kommando SG-1 as Colonel Simmons and in four episodes of Charmed , where he played Odin, an elder. Since 2011 he is also known for his speaking role on Discord in My Little Pony .
Until his death, de Lancie and Leonard Nimoy had a production company called Alien Voices , which was dedicated to the production of science fiction radio plays. In addition to acting, he is also the artistic director of L. A. Works . He also owns his own drama studio in Los Angeles , where he has taught young actors at the South Coast Conservatory. De Lancie is also good friends with Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager ). He is married to the actress Marnie Mosiman , who also had a guest role in Raumschiff Enterprise - The next century . They have two sons, Owen de Lancie and Keegan de Lancie , the latter of whom also made a guest appearance on Spaceship Voyager as " Q's " son.
From 2009 to 2010 he played the role of Donald Margolis in the hit series Breaking Bad .
In addition, de Lancie wrote the novel "Ich, Q" together with the author Peter David , which is written from the first-person perspective of his "Q".
