John Joseph Sullivan (born July 5, 1920 in Horton , Kansas , USA ; † February 11, 2001 in Kansas City , Missouri ) was Bishop of Kansas City-Saint Joseph .

Life

John Joseph Sullivan attended St. Benedict's College in Atchison . Sullivan studied Catholic theology and philosophy at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis . He received on 23 September 1944, the auxiliary bishop in Little Rock , Albert Lewis Fletcher , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Sullivan became a curate at the Holy Family Cathedral in Tulsa . He then became a chaplain for the University of Tulsa . In 1947 John Joseph Sullivan became pastor of St. Mary's Parish in Guthrie . He became pastor of St. James Parish in Oklahoma City in 1959 . In 1968 Sullivan became Episcopal Vicar for eastern Oklahoma .

On July 25, 1972, Pope Paul VI appointed him . to the Bishop of Grand Island . The Bishop of Oklahoma City-Tulsa , John Raphael Quinn , ordained him episcopal on September 19 of that year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Mobile , John Lawrence May , and the Bishop of Pueblo , Charles Albert Buswell . The inauguration took place on September 21, 1972. On June 27, 1977 Paul VI appointed him. to Bishop of Kansas City-Saint Joseph. The inauguration took place on August 17 of the same year.

On June 22, 1993, Pope John Paul II accepted John Joseph Sullivan's resignation on grounds of age.
