Panagiotis "Joti" Polizoakis (born June 9, 1995 in Bietigheim-Bissingen ) is a German ice dancer , figure skating coach and choreographer . He finished 16th at the 2018 Olympic Games.

Career

Joti Polizoakis is still one of the greatest talents in German figure skating. His strengths include his own distinctive running style with very good ice skating technique, musicality, which he underlines through his charisma and interpretation, and dance control on the ice. He started out as a single runner at the age of five. Polizoakis is the German junior champion from 2013 and 2014.

In 2015 he switched to ice dancing. With his ice dance partner Kavita Lorenz he started for the EC Oberstdorf . Her trainers were Marina Zueva , Massimo Scali and Martin Skotnický . They trained in Canton, Michigan, USA. After only 9 months of training together, the couple immediately won the 2016 German Championship. Polizoakis and Lorenz repeated this success in 2017 and 2018. Together with his partner, Polizoakis managed to secure a ticket for the 2018 Winter Olympics . This should be the biggest success of his career so far. Lorenz ended her career after the 2018 World Championships, and Polizoakis has been looking for partners ever since.

By winning the German Championship in 2018, Polizoakis and his partner qualified for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , South Korea. Polizoakis took 7th place in the figure skating team event. In the individual competition, Polizoakis qualified for the final and took 16th place in the final classification in the ice dancing competition.

Holiday On Ice
In the 2019/20 season, Polizoakis toured with Holiday on Ice as a star guest through Germany and Austria. In total he was seen on the ice in eleven appearances. His partner was Sarah Lombardi .

Dancing on Ice

Joti Polizoakis became known nationwide in 2019 for the first season of Dancing on Ice , in which he participated as a professional dancer. Together with Sarah Lombardi as a partner at his side, he won the first season.

The second season played Polizoakis with Lina Larissa Strahl . Once again, Polizoakis made it into the final as a professional and took third place with Lina Larissa Strahl.

Further television and stage appearances

On May 16, 2020, Polizoakis performed as a dancer at the Free European Song Contest .

Personal

Polizoakis was born in Germany as the eldest child of a Czech woman and a Greek woman. In addition to German, Czech and Greek, he also speaks English and French fluently. He has two younger siblings.

Polizoakis was in the service of the Bundeswehr as a sports soldier from 2017 to 2019 .
