Dancing on Ice is a German figure skating show based on the British television program of the same name, Dancing on Ice . It was initially broadcast on RTL television from October to December 2006 . On May 4, 2018, it was announced that the television station Sat.1 had secured the broadcasting rights to Dancing on Ice . The new edition has been broadcast since January 6, 2019.

From October 2006 to February 2008, a similarly conceived television format entitled Stars auf Eis - was broadcast by and with Katarina Witt on the television station ProSieben .

concept

In the show, several celebrities, each with a dance partner, professional or successful figure skaters, compete against each other in ice dances .

In each episode, the celebrities and their partners perform a live ice dance. The jurors assess each performance and give a grade between 0.0 and 10.0 (2006 season: up to 6.0) in steps of 0.5 points, depending on the performance. The television viewers also vote by televoting , i.e. by telephone and SMS. The jury and spectator votes are combined for the total number of points, which is used to determine the ranking to determine the two lowest-placed pairs.

The two couples with the worst score compete against each other in the “Skate Off” with a new dance performance. After both dances have been completed, the judges decide together who deserves to stay. This couple gets a place in the next episode; the other couple leaves the show. (2006: The couple with the most votes on the jury gets a seat in the next episode, while the couple with the fewest votes leave the show.)
