Judah Moshe Eisenberg
Judah Moshe Eisenberg (born December 17, 1938 in Cincinnati , Ohio , † March 17, 1998 in Tel Aviv ) was an American nuclear physicist.
Life
Eisenberg, son of a well-known Hebrew teacher, graduated from Columbia University in New York in 1958 . 1962 he was at Kerson Huang at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a thesis on theoretical physics doctorate . After a study visit in 1961 at CERN , the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva , he was first an assistant professor of physics at the University of Virginia , later associate professor ( 1965 - 1968 ) and full professor ( 1968 - 1975 ) and professor ( 1970 - 1974 ).
After a one-year visiting professorship as "Giulio Racah Chair of Theoretical Physics" at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1974-1975) and a one-year term as "Francis Henry Smith Chair of Physics" at the University of Virginia ( 1975 - 1976 ) moved Eisenberg already moved to Israel in 1975 and transferred to Tel Aviv University . Since 1983 he has held the "Yuval Ne'eman Chair in Theoretical Nuclear Physics", and from 1984 to 1986 he was dean of the "Raymond and Beverly Sackler Faculty of Exact Sciences".
He was a member of the American Physical Society and the Israel Physical Society .
Eisenberg has published over 120 scientific papers on topics in theoretical physics and nuclear physics. The three-volume monograph "Nuclear Theory", which he wrote together with Frankfurt physicist Walter Greiner , as well as two comprehensive works on quantum physics, together with Daniel S. Koltun, attracted particular attention .
In 2001 , the Frankfurt Friends' Association for Basic Physical Research e. V. in cooperation with the Department of Physics of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main for the first time the Judah M. Eisenberg Chair “Professor Laureatus of Theoretical Physics” as an award for professors in the department. The first recipient of the award, which is linked to an annual financial contribution, was the physicist Reinhard Stock . He was followed by the physicist Horst Stöcker as the prizewinner in 2004 .
