history

Königswalde was first mentioned in a document in 1270. The village belonged to the overseers of Plauen to fiefs , which the monastery Grünhain in Westerzgebirge gave. Like other monastery villages, Königswalde had its own jurisdiction and the right to brew beer. The farms were built according to plan, facing the village road and the stream in the valley. The fields spread out directly behind it. In the course of the introduction of the Reformation , Grünhain Monastery was secularized in 1533 . After its final dissolution, Königswalde came under the administration of the Electoral Saxon Office of Zwickau as an administrative village in 1536 . The half-timbered farms in the village are primarily four-sided farmsteads . The inhabitants were farmers who mainly weaved their homes . The fabric bales had to be laboriously brought to Werdau, Meerane , Glauchau or Crimmitschau on wheelbarrows . At the time of industrialization , these farmers were mostly cheap factory workers who mostly found work in the Werdar textile factories.

The church of Königswalde is probably the oldest building in the village and was built in the 12th century. The neighboring town of Hartmannsdorf has always been parish to Königswalde. The nave burned down during the Hussite Wars in 1430 and was rebuilt in the same year. In 1710 the first school house was built, a thatched hut that not only served as a classroom but also as a teacher's apartment. The building was extended in 1732 and served as a school until 1863. In 1863 a new school building was inaugurated, today's parish office. In 1889 another new school was built, which after renovations and extensions became a POS ( Polytechnic High School " Geschwister Scholl ") and in 1992 it became a primary school . The primary school "Geschwister Scholl" was closed on June 25, 2010 after 18 years.

Until 1856, Königswalde belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Zwickau. In 1856 Königswalde was affiliated to the Werdau court office and in 1875 to the Zwickau administration . The First World War claimed the place 29 lives and in the Second World War 70 people died. In September 1945 the land reform began in Germany and the Bergschlösschen restaurant , until then owned by the former local group leader of the NSDAP von Königswalde, was expropriated and declared public property. It was used as a cultural center . Since 1949 the village belonged to East Germany and in 1952 was Königswalde within the circle reforms in the GDR the district Karl-Marx-Stadt , Kreis Werdau assigned. After the reunification of Germany in 1990, Königswalde initially belonged to the Saxon district of Werdau , which was incorporated into the district of Zwickauer Land in 1994 and in the district of Zwickau in 2008. On January 1, 1996, Königswalde was incorporated into Werdau .
